These are the people I love most in the world. My whole heart. The lights of my life. My greatest blessings. ❤️
This month I will… make more of an effort to dat This month I will… make more of an effort to date my husband. Our days are so chaotic, full throttle nonstop action from dawn to dusk, and more often than not we find ourselves living life in a very reactive sense (instead of a more proactive manner). When we aren’t working, we prioritize trying to maximize our family time. And IMO we do a great job of that whenever we have a chance to but most days it doesn’t seem like there is much left over of either of us for much more.

We both get our exercise in (we play soccer, + he runs, and I play tennis - this helps us both maintain our sanity!), we have passions that we make time for (my creative writing and courses, his kite boarding and surfing - important self-care outlets for us both!), and we keep in touch with our close extended family as much we can (they all live out of state).

Unfortunately being intentional about finding quality time together, for just the two of us, is an area we struggle to find consistent rhythms. And it’s kind of crazy bc we LOVE spending time together. When we schedule a date-night-in on our calendars, we both eagerly anticipate a competitive game of Wingspan or a home-cooked collaborative adult-only dinner. We have always enjoyed each others company and we often commiserate about how we don’t make enough time to simple BE together.

So this month I will make more of an effort to bring back regular date night. To say yes to sitting by the fire in the backyard talking for hours after the kids go to bed, to getting a babysitter and go out to dinner, and to grabbing a coffee after school drop off. To even just finding more opportunities to hold hands. 🥰 Because quality time together fills both of our cups (haha more mine than his since it’s my love language!) and makes us feel more connected throughout our days. And mostly because it’s SO important for our marriage. And also bc we deserve it. ❤️

Happy May 1st!! It’s been while since I’ve don Happy May 1st!! It’s been while since I’ve done any kind of introduction around here so I figured now was as good a time as any (here’s my shoutout to @laura.tremaine who’s hosting #onedaymay as a fun creative challenge!). This is my first-thing-in-the-morning face, only halfway into my cup of coffee, and still half asleep selfie 😂

Hi 👋 I’m Eliza B. - a tenacious southern Gemini, life enthusiast, boy mama x2, newly dx ADHDer, infertility warrior, med wife, laugh lover, book lover, story sharer, ambivert, fueled by coffee and quality time, habitual list-maker, and enduring optimist.

I started a blog back in 2019 (link in bio!) and love connecting with people there and on social media. I’ve met some incredible friends over the past few years! I also created an online creative course called The Lost Art of Connection Through Letter-Writing and the second session just launched today and I am so excited!

I have a mercurial laundry list of passions. I love creative writing, photography, snail mail, traveling, playing tennis and soccer, riding my bike, camping, cooking, and kitchen dance parties w my family.

A few random facts about me - I used to hide candy in my elderly neighbor’s bushes bc my mom only ever had healthy food in our house! Once he discovered I was doing this, he and his wife would invite me over for pie and coke floats every day after school. / I was such a tomboy as a kid that I wished my name was Samantha or Alexandria so I could go by “Sam” or “Alex” and be cooler 😎/ Once I climbed a tree and refused to come down to avoid having to eat meatloaf ( I STILL hate meatloaf 😜). / I love the smell of the ocean, freshly cut grass, leaves burning in the autumn, and Christmas trees. / I’m most likely to be caught wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt (old soccer habits die hard) and I wish I could burn all my bras.

I am so happy to have you here and hope you’ll tell me something fun or interesting about yourself in the comments below! ❤️
At rest time today after school, Noah confided in At rest time today after school, Noah confided in me that he was feeling jealous that I have been rocking Niko and not him the past few days (usually he only rests in his room for a little while before retreating to the playroom to build legos or read quietly). I assured him that his feelings matter to me and we made a plan for him to rock with me for a few minutes at bedtime.

Moments later he said, “Mama sometimes I wish you hadn’t spent your money to get Niko.” And upon my confusion… “Well if you didn’t spend your money on him, then HOW did you and Papa get him?” 🙈 I explained that we *made* him (this demanded further explanation). “Well… we made him out of love - just like we made you! Love is how you make a family.” 💕 “Oh,” he said, “now I get it.” 😂

I’m hoping I bought us a few more years before we have to talk birds and bees with him 😳 but wow these kids and their questions and the way their minds think about things is a trip! I love how they keep us on our toes and ultimately I felt pretty satisfied with my answer (of course we plan to be more specific as he gets older and that becomes necessary!). Love IS how you make a family and I hope he always remembers that. ✨❤️✨
A handful of gratitude for a rainy Tuesday evening A handful of gratitude for a rainy Tuesday evening ❤️

✨ Noah asked me this morning en route to school - “are there actual volcanos anywhere on this entire planet?” which led to a 15 min conversation about volcanoes, cousin birth order, the navy and submarines, and owls (in that specific order 😂). I love the random things these kids are thinking about and how they piece together their world at this age.

✨ Paul made dinner tonight (Taco 🌮 Tuesday!) and it was delicious. Does food always taste better when someone you love cooks it for you?

✨ Niko and I have a secret handshake that we do every day at school drop off AND bedtime. It’s by far one of my favorite things.

✨ it’s raining but the clouds have opened up to reveal a huge crack of sunshiny blue - it’s golden hour now and light outside is so cool.

✨ so many of you have shown up to support me with my creative course, either by signing up to join us, by sharing it with your friends, and/or reaching out with the kindest and most thoughtful encouragement. It means the world to me. Thank you.

❤️ What’s on your gratitude list today?
Happy Earth 🌎 Day friends. I remember a quote I Happy Earth 🌎 Day friends. I remember a quote I read awhile back that stayed with me and thought I’d share it with you today - “The world doesn’t want to be saved. It wants to be loved. That’s how we save it.” -April Peerless

The examples we set for our children every day and the love we offer them unconditionally will pave their way. There are so many ways to guide them - to love our earth, to love their home, to love each other, and to understand in the depths of their hearts that love is necessary for survival. We teach these things by how we live them.

I believe we all have room for positive growth. We each have an opportunity to make a difference. The time is now. But the day is not only today, it’s every day.

We’ve got to love and appreciate the Earth to save her - she’s the only one we’ve got. 🌎🌱🏔☀️♻️ ❤️
