This crew is my all-time favorite.❤️ They’ve This crew is my all-time favorite.❤️ They’ve been keeping me busy the past couple of months 🤪 and as we ease and settle into the rhythms of the school season, I hope to find a bit more time to prioritize my creativity in this space which also means so much to me. There are so many things I want to share here and on my blog - I know I’ll find the time and embrace it when I do - for now I’m leaning into this chaotic lovely living-in-the-moment space of magic and motherhood. ✨

• a friend who majorly stepped up in some powerful decision making today that totally calmed my nerves 💙

• the printer working when I needed it to (which NEVER happens btw!!) 🖨️

• my kids learning good lessons about true friendship, even if they have to learn the hard way 👬

• Niko saying “mama you deserve alll the kisses” while smothering me with sweet little pecks at bedtime 🥰

• both cats coming inside right away when I called them tonight after a big thunderstorm ⛈️

Today the boys and I want to share one of our favo Today the boys and I want to share one of our favorite books from our summer rotation 💫 Sam and the Firefly by P.D. Eastman

// This classic tale of Sam the Owl and Gus the Firefly who meet and become friends. These two get into some questionable adventures together. I remember this nostalgic book from my own childhood! Gus gets carried away learning new tricks, causes all sorts of trouble and chaos, and ultimately learns the hard way that being a prankster isn’t always fun and games - sometimes it can cause harm to others. With unique illustrations, this story highlights the power of friendship, doing the “right” thing, and the potential impact of one’s actions. (This is also a fun book for kids who are learning to read!).

Hi, I’m Eliza B. Most of you probably already kn Hi, I’m Eliza B. Most of you probably already know me but for anyone new around here - let me introduce myself…

I’m a tenacious southern Gemini, life enthusiast, habitual list-maker, and enduring optimist. I’ve got a mercurial laundry list of passions. I’m a lover of laughter, good books, airstream adventures, snail mail, cozy socks, a well-intended pun, and kitchen dance parties with my family. I am continuously seeking to better understand myself and others; to get comfortable with my contradictions; and quiet the inner critic in my head.

Life has led me on an often bumpy yet mostly entertaining journey to get here and has taught me a lot of valuable lessons along the way - I’m convinced this road to personal growth is going to be ever evolving. I’ve spent the last 10 years navigating a bi-cultural medical marriage, infertility and IVF, and adjusting to the dramatic transition from being an ER nurse working in the throes of downtown Chicago to a stay-at-home mama of two spirited little boys.

Being a mama has been my greatest joy and is simultaneously the most humbling and rewarding experience of my life. I’m doing my best work every day to raise kind humans (and to continue to raise myself as well!).

Back when I was in 3rd grade my neighbor’s cat had a litter of kittens. One morning I smuggled one of them out of her house by reaching in and pulling it through the mail slot on their door. I had a whole plan to try to sneak it to school in a purple Jansport duffel bag but my mom busted me before I could pull it off (bc of course she did!) and made me take the kitten back. Later that SAME day when I got to the bus stop AFTER she’d made me take that kitten back and I found ANOTHER kitten crawling around between stacks of firewood in a woodpile. I dragged that one out by it’s head, put it in my duffel bag and took IT to school instead! 🤪

True story. Did I mention I’m tenacious?

Happy Place by Emily Henry // I was excited to he Happy Place by Emily Henry

// I was excited to hear Emily Henry was releasing a new book this summer. I’ve enjoyed her other books (Books Lovers was my fav) and hoped this new one would be a fun and easy beach read!

This light-hearted and character-driven story celebrates the power and longevity of friendship while simultaneously giving readers a sizable dose of intensely angsty second-chance romance.

Nostalgia runs deep for Harriet, Sabrina, and Cleo who have spent over a decade of summers together at Sabrina’s cherished cottage in coastal Maine. Through the years they have collected quite an entourage of supporting characters, all of whom have become a very close-knit group of friends. This year marks the last group vacation as they reunite for a final hurrah at the cottage before Sabrina’s father sells it (much to everyone’s dismay!).

Upon everyone’s arrival, things between the friends escalate quickly - with surprise announcements, unresolved tensions flaring, and more than one tricky secret being kept in attempt to avoid ruining this last weekend and wreaking havoc on the dynamic of the group. This book is sexy, full of witty banter (which I love!), engaging, and has a genuinely meaningful layer to it with the friends-theme.

For me, it was the female characters that really made this book shine. Henry does such a good job at portraying the complexity of friendship with an earnestness and relatability, delving into the complicated, chaotic, and sometimes painful nature that these relationships endeavor as they shift and change over time.

I enjoyed Happy Place and breezed through it in record time. Overall I think if you're a fan of Emily Henry, you will probably like this book too, especially as a fun summer beach read.

“The second people felt alone, I noticed, usuall “The second people felt alone, I noticed, usually in the space between things—leaving a therapy session, at a red light, standing in a checkout line, riding the elevator—they picked up devices and ran away from that feeling. In a state of perpetual distraction, they seemed to be losing the ability to be with others and losing their ability to be with themselves.” ― Lori Gottlieb

// I’ve been thinking about this so much lately. We’ve become more and more attached to our devices - seemingly more connected to each other and the world at-large, the things that peak our interests accessible at the touch of a button, perpetually pursuing mass amounts of ever-evolving information. We seem unable (or unwilling) to move through the world without those buttons at our fingertips - almost as though these captivating contraptions have become extensions of ourselves.

All the while I fear we are becoming increasingly disconnected from our emotions, our truths, our creativity, the depth of our relationships and the depth of our own hearts.

The “distraction” of our devices and the constant input/overloading of media has stolen our sense of contentment, the calm of stillness, the ease of comfortable silences, the art of daydreaming, the noticing of beauty surrounding us, and the magic that is found in the in-between moments of simply being.

The ability to captivate our attention is being dictated by algorithms and angst, overstimulation and emotional desensitization, impatience and idealism. We have to reclaim ourselves. Recalibrate to reconnect. Seek more intention with our attention. Disentangle our desires and rediscover what we want to define us.

I don’t think we have to leave our devices in the dust to do this - they have value if harnessed with purpose and perspective. It would just be nice to be able catch another person’s eye at a stoplight and exchange a smile; wrack our brains to remember the name of that ___ (song, actor, movie, place we went once…) w friends over dinner; let boredom seek its own inspiration; use landmarks to find a destination; write our hearts out on paper; examine our truths in the mirror.

What do YOU think? ✨
